Turmeric…how glorious is this root? Just look at it! It makes me feel lively and comforted, just by seeing its vibrant color. Ayurvedics, for sometime have considered turmeric to be “strengthening and warming to the whole body”. It is used to balance vata, pitta and kapha. Turmeric is also a traditional spice in India that is taken to improve intestinal flora and in elimintating worms. Improving the intestinal flora itself also helps with gas and digestion, but it does so much more.
I was attempting to review the Luna Cup Menstrual Cup and I mistakenly purchased the Luna Menstrual Cup instead. I know, they are very similar in name. That is ok...mistakes happen. It gave me a chance to review another kind of menstrual cup. I purchased it on Amazon, sold by Ferayco. It is the first menstrual cup I am reviewing, so I cannot compare the texture of the cup or feel of it to any other cup at this time. I will edit this article to include some comparisons, as I have the ability.
Over the years, women have improved their relationships with their bodies; but we are still so unfamiliar with them. We still swallow the lore, that our bodies are dirty and shameful. Our bodies for centuries have been presented as a mystery, like an ancient language without a Rosetta Stone. The human body is complex and glorious. There are aspects of our bodies, that we now finally feel acceptable to speak freely about. There are myths and shame accompanying those aspects of our bodies, that we are beginning to dissipate.
Back in January of this year, Jen Gunter M.D., a San Francisco Bay Area OB-GYN was interviewed for Self Magazine. In the article, Gunter goes after the claims made by the producers of many organic and natural feminine product. She “stresses that there are no toxins, aka poisonous substances that can cause diseases or illnesses at low amounts, in tampons, and notes that concerns about phthalates in applicators are also unnecessary.”
It’s all so bittersweet…we have two choices age or die! It’s true…that being said, there are things we can do to retard the aging process (exercise, drinking plenty of water, laughing, diet…) and beautifully embrace it! OK, I know that is a bit grim. In this post, I am focusing on one aspect of skin care, namely exfoliation.
NYC should be commended for standing at the forefront of attempting to regulate some of the unhealthy meals that are being served up “undercover”. People across America are being served incredible amounts of salt and fat in restaurant food without even knowing it. Most of the sodium is entering people’s diets from pre-prepared foods, like canned foods, breads and cereals, deli meats, soups and restaurant foods. The American Medical Association has urged manufacturers to reduce the sodium in their foods by 50% within 10 years.
The most important meal of the day? Well that sounds like an entirely different post, but I did find some interesting numbers that I wanted to share with you regarding breakfast. It could definitely effect the way in which you start and end your day. I recently wrote a post about sodium in our diets, not because I am so fanatical about nutritional labels, but because I had never really understood nutritional labels and I finally had a basic understanding of at least the topic of sodium requirements.
OK, don't get me wrong; I am not advocating for Doritos Nacho Cheese and Franks Red Hot sauce, but I would be lying if I did not admit that this combo has been an old family favorite!
I have had allergies all of my life. Seasonal, dust mites, animal dander, etc. It wasn't until I got my tonsils taken out as an adult that I realized that it was not normal to have post-nasal drip constantly streaming in the back of one's throat. I have taken a myriad of allergy medications and shots, but nothing really seemed to work. If it did, it was temporary and I was either drowsy or nervous (a bit agitated). My body had been susceptible to nasal infections until I found this lovely addition to my bag o' tricks - the Neti Pot.
